ASA Statement on Diversity and Inclusiveness in the Field of Acoustics

In light of the recent US Supreme Court rulings regarding college admissions and the unclear impact on professional societies, we as leaders in the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) feel it is imperative to reaffirm our commitment to enhancing the diversity and inclusiveness of our scientific community. We restate our belief that diversity enriches the field of acoustics. In fact, the importance of diverse perspectives and ensuring an inclusive environment cannot be overstated and is largely supported by empirical evidence. We invite our members to engage with our diversity-focused initiatives by joining with the Committee to Improve Racial Diversity and Inclusivity (CIRDI) to remove barriers and create inclusive environments for full participation in the field of acoustics.

Otolaryngology Scientist/Clinician-Scientist Leader – Epstein Lab for Auditory Physiology & Genetics

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is seeking a leader for the Saul and Ida Epstein Laboratory for Auditory Physiology and Genetics. The Epstein Laboratory is an endowed Regents Laboratory within the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UCSF and is devoted to hearing science. Historically, the lab has focused on basic and applied research for the treatment of deafness with a focus on cochlear implantation, cochlear physiology, and genetic therapies. The next leader of the Epstein Lab will be central to collaborations focused on advancing the basic science understanding of the mechanisms of hearing and/or auditory processing in order to target therapeutic strategies.

The successful candidate will be a leader in the field of hearing science, highly collaborative, and must have a track record of facilitating relationships across several clinical and research disciplines. A track record of consistent funding is expected.  Investigators from a background in various technologies will be considered including scientists with interest in stem cell technology, tissue engineering, neuroscience, genetics, or cochlear physiology.

The Epstein Lab Director will be a research leader within the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and as such will work cooperatively with the clinical Division of Otology/Neurotology which is led by Dr. Charles Limb. Mentorship of medical students, residents, post-doctoral students, and clinical and research faculty is integral to the position

The position will be within the In-Residence track at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level. Candidates must have a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or an equivalent degree.

Postdoctoral Researcher

Description of the position:

The 3D Audio and Applied Acoustics (3D3A) Laboratory at Princeton University (https://3d3a.princeton.edu/) announces the availability of a postdoctoral research associate position in the general area of spatial audio. Current sub-areas of research include sound field control, sound field isolation, 3D audio through loudspeakers and headphones, and 3D sound field navigation. Working knowledge and/or good command of the principles of binaural audio, higher-order ambisonics, spatial sound perception, HRTF, fundamental acoustics, digital signal processing, and computer programming are expected. Knowledge of adaptive filtering, and machine learning is a plus.  A PhD is required. Appointments are for one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding.
