Meeting structure
- When are the regular technical sessions?
All technical sessions are scheduled between Tuesday 8 June and Thursday 10 June between the hours of 9:30 am and 4:00 pm. All times are EDT (GMT-4).

- I heard there are different technical session types at AiF. What are they?
- Focused sessions are similar to a special session at a regular meeting, consisting of 12-minute invited and contributed talks that are pre-recorded, but scheduled at a specific time. Each presentation is followed by a 2-3 minutes of Q&A with the presenter via chat. Each session includes one or more live discussion periods on Zoom that enable attendees to interact directly with the speakers.
- Tutorial Sessions consist of live presentations of extended length (20 – 120 minutes) that provide a deep dive into a topic, as well as discussion periods on Zoom.
- Panel Discussions are conducted entirely on Zoom with live interaction between attendees and invited expert panelists.
- Lightning Rounds are conducted entirely on Zoom with live 5-minute talks interspersed with questions and discussion periods.
- Will there be any Keynote Lectures?
There are two live Keynote Lectures: Tuesday at 4:00pm and Wednesday at 4:30pm.
- Is it still possible for me to propose a Lightning Round talk?
Attendees interested in giving a talk in a scheduled Lightning Round session can register up to 24 hours before the session starts.
Access and Navigation
- Are recorded talks viewable outside the scheduled presentation time?
Registered participants can access any pre-recorded technical presentation within the meeting platform, hosted by morressier.com, through Friday 11 June. A recording of the Plenary session is available on the AiF meeting web site.
- What events are open to those who have not registered for the meeting?
All ASA members can attend open meetings of technical committees and the Strategic Plan Champions, which are conducted on Zoom. See the ASA meetings page for information on registering for these events.
Interacting with other participants
Be sure to visit the Acoustics in Focus gather.town space to meet up with conference speakers and participants.
Gather.Town is a “proximity chat” platform where you can meet and converse with people in a way that simulates being in a room with others. You can join or leave conversations, have private chats with one or more people, schedule meet-ups, and even play online games! The space designed specifically for the AiF meeting has a separate meeting room for each TC, a Student Lounge, and several areas for private conversations. The space will be available 24/7 throughout the month of June.
The link and password will be made available to registered participants.
- Will I be able to see who else is attending a session and communicate with them?
During scheduled talks on the Morressier platform, you will be able to view only the speakers and the session chair. During discussion periods held on zoom, you will be able to see and interact with other participants.
- Is there a way to interact with speakers and other attendees outside of a technical session?
Go to gather.town! You can make arrangements to meet one or more people at specific times, or just show up and see who you run into! A tutorial and video tour of the space are available on the AiF meeting page.
Attendees can also interact in gather.town while they are viewing technical sessions by having each platform open in a separate window.
- I am participating in the Students Meet Members for Lunch program. Is gather.town a good place to meet?
Of course! There are 2-person private spaces set up in the AiF gather.town space that are ideal for SMMfL conversations.
Yoga Classes
Yoga classes will be offered on Zoom on Wednesday and Thursday, 9 and 10 June, in the break between a.m. and p.m. sessions (approximately 12:30 p.m. to 12:55 p.m.). There is no charge to participate in the classes but preregistration at the links below is required.
The class will be fairly gentle to allow inclusivity for all levels with the focus on relaxation and breathing techniques, quieting the mind, and some gentle stretches.
Participants are encouraged to wear loose, comfortable clothing, have a bottle of water nearby, and anything they can use as a strap (e.g., yoga strap if they have one, alternatively a belt or hand towel can substitute). A mat, blanket, and cushion are not required but would be useful if available.
It will not be specifically a chair yoga class. However, if there are participants who are unable to sit on the floor or stand, a chair can be used.
