A Postdoctoral Scholar position is available in the Applied Hearing Science Lab at the University of Washington Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. The Applied Hearing Science Lab is located on the Seattle campus of the University of Washington. Our lab aims to contribute to translational research and the pursuit of improving hearing healthcare service, with an emphasis on the older adult population. Our current research focuses on identifying individual differences in speech recognition performance, with the overarching goal of enabling individualized hearing aid fitting and fine tuning. In addition to our lab and the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, the University is home to a strong group of scientists conducting research in various areas related to hearing. This training environment offers and encourages collaboration among this team of researchers.
This position is supported for up to 2 years by a NIH/NIDCD funded grant that is focused on speech perception among the elderly. Interests in other areas of hearing science are welcome. This position offers support for professional development and a trajectory leading to independent research. Independent grant submission is encouraged and supported.
Main responsibilities include research focused on the development of new experimental protocols, data collection and analysis, and presentation and publication of results. Additional opportunities will be made available for teaching and mentoring experience, as well as independent grant writing and submission.
Qualified applicants will have completed a Ph.D. by the time the position begins, and will have familiarity with areas including but not limited to audiology, hearing science, neuroscience, linguistics, engineering, or related fields. The candidate should have strong oral and written
English communication skills. Desired qualifications include experience with psychophysical experiments, data collection, and statistical analysis, programming languages (e.g. Matlab). Salary is commensurate with NIH and University post-doctoral stipend levels.
