The Simmons lab in the Department of Neuroscience at Brown University is recruiting a postdoctoral research associate to lead efforts in computational modeling and model evaluation for animal biosonar systems. The position is funded by a collaborative MURI grant from the Office of Naval Research and requires close collaboration with the other MURI team institutions. The postdoctoral research associate will develop and execute new computational modules for incorporation into the existing SCAT model of bat biosonar. The successful candidate will also participate in the design and execution of behavioral and acoustic experiments to assess the model for clutter rejection within a sonar scene in relation to animal performance.
PhD in computational neuroscience, computational cognitive science, acoustics/signal processing, computer science, applied mathematics, or related field.
Strong programming skills, with expertise in MATLAB
Familiarity with acoustics and signal processing.
Experience with quantitative analytic techniques and statistical software packages (R, SPSS).
Fluency in spoken and written English.
Strong record of publication.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Begin and End Dates: Opening available February 1, 2018; 1 year initial appointment, renewable for up to two additional years
