Postdoctoral Fellowship, Seabed characterization using marine seismic data, University of Washington

Location: School of Oceanography, University of Washington, Seattle, WA
Duration: 3 years (second and third year is contingent on satisfactory performance in previous year)

Application Process: Please send your resume, one-page cover letter, and name and email address of one reference to Dr. Shima Abadi

We are seeking one highly qualified candidate for a postdoctoral fellowship to work on a project focused on using marine seismic data to characterize sea-bottom interaction. We will study the impact of seabed (a few meters below the seafloor) and sub-seabed (a kilometer or more below the seafloor) on sound propagation in the water column. We will use tools and techniques that are common in marine reflection seismology to convert this dataset to a suitable format for bottom loss and attenuation characterization. This position is funded through the Office of Naval Research with Dr. Shima Abadi as the academic supervisor and with collaboration with Dr. Warren Wood from the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL).

Required Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in engineering, oceanography, or a related field.
• Experience in ocean acoustics, marine reflection seismology
• Experience in programming (Python and/or MATLAB)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong record of scholarly publications
