Job Summary
The Applied Propagation Physics Group (APPG) in the Marine Physical Laboratory (MPL) of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), University of California San Diego (UCSD) is currently searching for multiple Postdoctoral Researchers to join the growing research team. The positions are temporary, full-time, and eligible for benefits. The initial appointments will be for 24 months.
In the Applied Propagation Physics Group (APPG), we are investigating the physics and underwater sound propagation and scattering. We are also developing ocean acoustic technologies to sense, characterize and analyze marine environments. The group conducts research both in the laboratory and at sea.
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) has world-renowned, top-ranking research and education programs (https://scripps.ucsd.edu/) that support a dynamic, enthusiastic, and collaborative community for early career researchers to thrive and develop their research programs. While the primary focus of the work is on research, the Postdoctoral Researchers will have the opportunity to participate in educational and outreach activities associated with the projects.
Essential Functions
- Sound propagation and scattering model development.
- Acoustic data analysis.
- Participating sea trial cruises and assisting on conducting field work experiments.
- Working well in a large interdisciplinary group.
- Writing peer-reviewed publications and presenting research results at national and international scientific meetings.
