FACULTY POSITION AT SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY, UCSD – Ocean Acoustics

Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California San Diego (http://scripps.ucsd.edu) invites applications for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor position with a research focus on ocean acoustics. Of interest are all aspects of acoustics in the ocean including but not limited to: marine physics and the measurement of sound propagation underwater including interaction with the boundaries, the sources and spatial/temporal structure of ambient sound, the application of innovative computational approaches to acoustic data collected at-sea, and acoustic sensing technology development. The successful candidate also will be expected to contribute to teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in the SIO Department. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated skill sets and experiences that prepare them to develop and maintain an innovative sea-going research program (Asst. rank), and/or will have experience in developing and maintaining an innovative sea-going research program that would be expected of a faculty member (Assoc./Full rank). The successful candidate will have demonstrated teaching excellence, and/or leadership, meaningful engagement in student mentorship and commitment to student development in both undergraduate and graduate students.

We seek a motivated, broad-thinking scientist-educator to establish a vigorous research program and provide intellectual leadership in their field while complementing existing expertise at SIO and other UC San Diego departments. SIO is a world-renowned center of marine research with approximately 200 principal investigators leading research programs on all aspects of ocean, earth, biological, and atmospheric sciences.  SIO is part of UC San Diego, which is one of the top research universities in the world. The position requires a PhD in Oceanography, Physics, Engineering or a related field.
