Requirements Include:

  • Bachelors in a technical field related to Acoustics (Acoustical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, etc.)
  • Higher Degree such as Masters or Ph.D (preferred, but not required)
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in Acoustical Engineering or Acoustical Consulting
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating and developing solutions to noise and vibration control problems
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering design team to incorporate design and detailing appropriate for acoustical purposes as the project evolves
  • Acoustical modeling, analysis, and testing
  • Drafting reports, letters, and other documents summarizing results and recommendations
  • Project schedule and budget management

A postdoctoral fellowship in the Biomedical Acoustics Laboratory is available for research on therapeutic applications of ultrasound, including ultrasound echo decorrelation imaging for monitoring of thermal ablation in clinical cancer therapy. The postdoctoral fellow will be joining a collaborative team including the Principal Investigator, clinicians in surgery, radiology, and pathology, a biostatistician, and Biomedical Engineering undergraduate and graduate students, as well as other faculty, students, and staff within the University of Cincinnati Image-guided Ultrasound Therapeutics Laboratories.

A Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, or equivalent doctoral degree in physics, or another engineering discipline is required. Desired skills and experience include biomedical ultrasound instrumentation, computer programming (MATLAB and C++), biomedical signal and image processing, and physical acoustics including numerical and analytic modeling.

Acoustical Engineer

Blue Ridge Research and Consulting, LLC (BRRC) is currently seeking an acoustical engineer for our Asheville, NC office. This position involves conducting research in a wide range of environmental acoustic areas including sound and noise source measurements, general and specialized modeling, soundscape and transportation noise visualizations, and outdoor warning system design. Current research areas include noise source characterization of military aircraft and rockets, long-range sound propagation modeling, and operational noise reduction studies. Responsibilities involve applied acoustical research as well as interacting with clients, noise analysis modeling, and technical reporting.

Skills – Applicants must be team oriented, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and enjoy working in a high-energy environment. Further, applicants must possess strong analytical and computer skills to solve unique and challenging problems for both the military and transportation industries. Computer programming skills, particularly in MATLAB, are required for success. Proficiency in the following programming languages are preferred: FORTRAN, C++, C#, Python, SQL, and VB.

What You Will Do

Gannet Fleming is looking for a Highway Traffic Noise Engineer/ Analyst to contribute to a wide range of projects involving a variety of environmental licensing, permitting and compliance to join our Noise, Vibration and Air Quality Group in the Mid-Atlantic region. We are looking to hire in Raleigh, NC.

The successful candidate will assist with highway and rail transportation noise, environmental noise and industrial noise projects. The successful candidate will participate in sound level measurement programs, data collection, data analysis and report preparation.

Job duties:

    • Performing preliminary and final design traffic noise analysis
    • Responsible for completing development tasks as assigned by the project lead
    • Working as part of a team to develop quality and robust solutions
    • Perform a variety of data analysis/processing functions, including analytical data quality reviews, data extraction/loading/transformation, and data organization and cleanup.

General Description:

The Acoustics Designer is responsible for the design, quoting, administration and occasional on-site commissioning for acoustics projects.  The Acoustics Designer will conduct on-site acoustic measurements and coordinate acquisition and rental of necessary tools to do so, prepare necessary reports, provide technical input, suggest technical alternatives, and develop cost estimates as possible, work closely with the Salesperson and the Project Manager to ensure the project design meets client expectations and that project deadlines and budget parameters are met. The Acoustics Designer also has the responsibility to oversee the commissioning and post-construction testing of projects where those services are requested. The Acoustics Designer must maintain a comprehensive knowledge of acoustic products, best practices, calculations, standard construction pricing and modeling to develop technical solutions and conceptual design specifications that meet customer requirements.

Travel will be occasionally required.  Working remotely from a home office is acceptable.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Meet with sales staff to discuss client needs and review completed designs.
  • Attend occasional programming, design review, and site walk-through meetings with sales staff or Project Managers.
  • Complete project designs based on client requirements, desires, and budgets.
  • Complete acoustic analysis reports, project scopes and acoustics drawings.
  • Interface with clients to clarify intent and/or review project documentation for sign-off.
  • Oversee the ordering of material.
  • Communicate progress of project with Project Manager and Salesperson throughout the life of the project.
  • Participate in periodic site visits and walk-throughs as required and issue subsequent documentation on design issues or construction punchlist items.
  • Create and/or respond to RFIs in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager on all project specific needs for acoustics commissioning.
  • Participate in project commissioning in coordination with the Project Manager when necessary.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager to confirm Commissioning Schedule and dates/times.
  • Attend final walk-thru with Project Manager, Customer and/or Salesperson.
  • Complete administrative tasks, such as credit card reconciliations, travel booking, etc.
  • Complete any close out documents as necessary in coordination with Project Manager.
  • Responsible for ongoing training and continuing education to keep current with available solutions, technical information and design trends.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by Systems Design Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Knowledge of acoustic products, best practices, calculations, and typical construction pricing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

The Acoustics Designer should possess knowledge of customer relations and communications, project management, and job costing.
