We have many exciting corporate, hospitality, education, residential, and industrial noise projects that have just begun! The ideal candidate would have a minimum of three years of experience in Acoustics and Noise Control Consulting. The new hire would be responsible for the following:

1) Calculations and analyses related to architectural acoustics and environmental noise. Required knowledge of mechanical system noise and vibration control including Noise Criteria (NC) analysis, interior finishes including reverberation time (RT) analysis, and sound and impact insulation analyses.

2) Environmental noise measurements including Leq, Lmax, L90, day-night noise level, and other statistical measurements.

3) Architectural acoustics measurements including RT, NC, STC, IIC, NIC, and ISR.

4) Speech privacy analyses and sound masking system design.

5) Basic knowledge of audiovisual systems. AV systems design experience is a plus.

Excellent verbal and written communication necessary. Position has growth potential including training other entry-level employees or interns and assisting with company standards.

Professor in Acoustic-Mechanical Micro Systems

DTU Mechanical Engineering

Location: Lyngby, Denmark

We seek a dynamic and outgoing leader and professor to head our Centre for Acoustic-Mechanical Micro Systems (CAMM). CAMM is a joint centre between DTU Electrical Engineering and DTU Mechanical Engineering. It is sponsored by the Danish Hearing Aid industry and has presently a staff of 10 scientists working in the area spanning from micro mechanical systems to acoustic technologies.

The research activities are in the following areas:

  • The development and application of numerical methods applicable to acoustic, mechanical systems and interaction between the two in the form of multiphysics systems.
  • The development and application of methods within one or more of the areas of fluid dynamics applied to airflow over small objects, material properties and process ability of thin-walled components, development of new types of materials with specific properties.
  • The development and application of methods within one or more of the areas of contact models for finite element calculations (FEM), FEM applied to moving structures, BEM applied to acoustics in lossy media, simulation of air flow around small objects, FEM applied to material properties and processing conditions.
  • Synthesis tools for small scale acoustic and multiphysics systems – for example using automated synthesis tools based on shape and topology optimization.

The research should also form the basis for educational initiatives, e.g., new courses and inspiring supervision of students.  Moreover, the activities are expected to lead to innovation in area.

Responsibilities and tasks
As professor you are expected to be instrumental in further developing the centre as an internationally leading centre within the field. You will work together with the managements of DTU Electrical Engineering and DTU Mechanical Engineering and with industrial partners to create a centre that serves as a unique platform for the development of the field of acoustic mechanical micro systems – a field focusing on the acoustic and mechanical parameters involved in the process of analysing and designing small audio systems and other miniaturized systems involving acoustics. Special attention is given to the interdependence between acoustic and mechanical parameters.

The position involves the following primary areas of responsibility:

  • You will lead and develop CAMM’s scientific efforts in an inspiring and dynamic way in all areas of its research activities.
  • You will oversee the educational responsibilities of the centre and help to establish a number of courses that will ensure that students become familiar with the field.
  • You will stimulate collaboration between scientific and technical staff in the centre and those not directly part of the centre including relevant acoustic and mechanical centres and sections across DTU and industrial partners.
  • You will actively stimulate innovation in CAMM including student innovation.
  • You take a deep interest in building up CAMM´s portfolio in areas that support further technological development within the area of personalized audio systems and other areas where micro systems are involved.

A position as professor with special responsibilities involves all the usual duties associated with a full professorship, as well as fixed-term specific duties associated with the position.

The professor is expected to participate in teaching at the BSc, MSc and PhD levels. For international candidates, DTU can provide Danish language courses enabling the candidates to teach in Danish within 2-3 years.

Qualifications
You should already have obtained well-documented international recognition within your research field. Employment implies original research at the highest international level within one or more of the above-mentioned research themes.

As the successful candidate, you should preferably be able to document experience with teaching at all university levels from bachelor to PhD.  Moreover, familiarity with modern web based teaching methods will also be seen as an advantage

We expect that you have some experience with innovation processes in the form of knowledge transfer to industry or filing of patent ideas.

Experience in the management of a medium-sized research team is essential and you should enjoy close contact with industrial stakeholders. Outstanding communication skills are required. Experience in obtaining research funding is also a requirement.

About the Position:

ESA is seeking a Noise Engineer or Scientist with three to ten years of technical expertise in noise analysis with specific work experience in CEQA and NEPA impact assessment, noise monitoring and noise modeling.  Position also requires familiarity in application of noise regulations, standards, and noise and vibration impact guidance of the Federal Transit Administration and Caltrans.  Noise modeling experience should include the use of the FHWA Noise Prediction Model, Roadway Construction Noise Model and/or SoundPlan or CadnaA.  A background on noise field monitoring is required.  Although not required, we also desire candidates with vibration monitoring experience or underwater noise monitoring experience. Successful candidate will have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Job Description:

1. Evaluate customer requirements and engage in engineering product design utilizing knowledge of acoustic and mechanical engineering principles.

3. Perform system design for all phases of active acoustic projects in various music rehearsal and performing arts venues.

5. Conduct acoustic field measurements and on-site product assessment. Manage and operate company’s acoustical and electronics laboratories, including specification and maintenance of data acquisition software and test equipment.

6. Project leadership to develop detailed customer requirements and corresponding product functional requirements in collaboration with the Product Manager and field visits.

7. Effectively leader multifunctional project teams both individually and collectively to help accomplish the goals of the project and stimulate growth of the team’s capabilities.

8. Stimulate generation and development of effective ideas for new products, product improvements and cost reductions in order to provide the best possible product for our customers

9. Conduct the engineering analysis with respect to strength calculations, design layout, fits and tolerances and modeling as required

10. Conduct accelerated product life cycle tests and evaluates field testing and potential misuse of all products in order to provide a long and safe service life for the end user

• Proficiency with computer aided design (CAD) software (SolidWorks preferred)

• Knowledge of analytical acoustical tools such as CATT, EASERA, ODEON, etc. preferred

• Knowledge of sound system configuration tools such as Audio Architect, Q-YS, CueStation, etc. preferred

• Knowledge of sound system components, functions and design implementations preferred
