Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Product Development Acoustical Test Engineer will be part of a team of engineers responsible for designing and commercializing passive and electronic hearing protection and communication product solutions primarily for the industrial market place.  These exciting new systems will utilize various forms of materials, manufacturing technologies, and/or electronics to deliver products that protect our customers from hazardous environments.  The successful candidate will participate in and accelerate new product development within the Personal Safety Division.

 

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs testing and evaluation of hearing protectors and/or communications products in accordance with hearing protection industry standards and regulations, which includes working with human test subjects and acoustical manikins
  • Analyzes data as directed, using Excel and other software tools as needed to provide graphical and statistical descriptors to assist in decision making processes.
  • Conducts daily, weekly and monthly calibrations and ensures lab quality systems, procedures, equipment calibrations and documentation are in place to comply with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17025 standard to maintain laboratory accreditation
  • Ensures compliance with ethical human subject testing requirements
  • Participates as the quality-acoustics test engineer member in cross-functional new product development commercialization teams and product maintenance teams.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of one (1) year of combined acoustical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and/or laboratory experience in a private, public, government or military environment (an Internship or Co-op is considered qualifying)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Acoustical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Experience related to development and testing of hearing protectors and/or communications products
  • Experience in and comfort working with human test subjects
  • Experience with acoustical and/or vibration measurements and related calibration practices
  • Experience with test method development, testing methodology, electronics, specification and/or development of test equipment
  • Knowledge of hearing protection industry standards
  • Experience with various statistical methods [Analysis of Variation (ANOVA,) Design of Experiments (DOE), Statistical Variability]
  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Excellent skills: interpersonal, communication (oral, written and presentation), technical, documentation, problem solving and teamwork
  • Experience working on global cross-functional teams
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated individual with proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize to meet business needs
  • Microsoft Office proficient, LabView a plus

Gannet Fleming is looking for an Acoustic GIS Analyst to contribute to a wide range of projects involving on a variety of environmental licensing, permitting and compliance to join our Noise, Vibration and Air Quality Group in the Mid-Atlantic region. We are looking to hire in Raleigh, NC.

The successful candidate will assist with highway and rail transportation noise, environmental noise, industrial noise projects. The successful candidate will participate in sound level measurement programs, data collection, data analysis and report preparation.

Job duties:

  • Responsible for completing development tasks as assigned by the project lead
  • Assisting with project requirement gathering
  • Working as part of a team to develop quality and robust solutions
  • Perform a variety of data analysis/processing functions, including analytical data quality reviews, data extraction/loading/transformation, and data organization and cleanup.
  • Assists design team in creating plans from concept through final construction drawings
  • Creates base drawings using survey information and CAD program(s)
  • Plots/prints plans, reports, and presentation materials
  • Conduct noise measurement field work as part of the team
  • Develops project and presentation graphics

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS or BA degrees in Computer Science or GIS-related fields.
    • Different degrees may be considered if core coursework consisted of GIS classes.
    • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience is highly desired.
  • ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox)
    • Experience with 3D Analyst, Arc Scene, ArcGIS Pro or Python is a plus.
  • Experience with various GIS data formats (Shapefiles, File Geodatabases, DEM or .tin files)
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines

In addition, he/she will be involved in conducting research in a wide range of environmental acoustic areas including sound and noise source measurements, general and specialized modeling, soundscape, and transportation noise visualizations. Responsibilities involve applied acoustical research as well as interacting with clients, noise analysis modeling, and technical reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Engineering Science, Physics or a related field;
  • 2-5 years of experience working in a consulting environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency using sound level measurement equipment
  • Experience with the FHWA TNM2.5 model
  • Proficient and hands on experience using Microstation, AutoCAD or GIS
  • Computer programming skills are preferred
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary project team
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience with industry standard transportation noise models and GIS analysis is preferred
    • Conducted highway noise analysis and mitigation studies
    • Conducted rail noise and vibration analysis
    • Participated in data collecting field measurement trips
  • Experience managing takes with an interest in leading projects, expanding current lines of work, and potentially exploring new areas of opportunities, will also be considered
