Hofstra University’s Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences seeks to fill an opening for an anticipated full-time, tenure track, faculty position in Speech-Language Pathology.

 

The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences is housed within the School of Health Professions and Human Services, which includes the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, located in the Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center.  The Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic offers diagnostic and treatment services to children and adults for a variety of communication disorders.  The Clinic has over 150 pediatric and adult affiliations within the greater NY metropolitan area.

Responsibilities of the position include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in speech science, voice disorders, and/or swallowing.  The course load consists of 9 semester hours (3 courses) of teaching per semester.  Additional responsibilities include research in the applicant’s area of interest, student advisement, and involvement in Department, School, and University committees.

Requirements include an earned PhD in Communication Disorders or a related field. ASHA certification is preferred but not required. This is a nine-month tenure track position beginning in the Fall of 2018, subject to financial availability.

Acoustical Engineer

Blue Ridge Research and Consulting, LLC

Location: Asheville, NC

 

 

Blue Ridge Research and Consulting, LLC (BRRC) is currently seeking an acoustical engineer for our Asheville, NC office. This position involves conducting research in a wide range of environmental acoustic areas including sound and noise source measurements, general and specialized modeling, soundscape and transportation noise visualizations, and outdoor warning system design. Current research areas include noise source characterization of military aircraft and rockets, long-range sound propagation modeling, and operational noise reduction studies. Responsibilities involve applied acoustical research as well as interacting with clients, noise analysis modeling, and technical reporting.

Skills – Applicants must be team oriented, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and enjoy working in a high-energy environment. Further, applicants must possess strong analytical and computer skills to solve unique and challenging problems for both the military and transportation industries. Computer programming skills, particularly in MATLAB, are required for success. Proficiency in the following programming languages are preferred: FORTRAN, C++, C#, Python, SQL, and VB.

Experience – A minimum of two years of experience (or a Master of Science) conducting acoustical research and consulting is required. A working knowledge of outdoor sound propagation, measurement methods, and signal processing techniques is preferred. Additional experience with industry standard transportation noise models and GIS analysis is preferred. More experienced candidates, who have a desire to lead projects, expand current lines of work, and explore new technical areas are also encouraged to apply. Acoustic Electrical Engineer

Project Overview:

Excet Inc. is seeking to immediately hire an Electrical Engineer who will specialize in design, development, and testing of electrical systems for underwater acoustic applications. The candidate must be able to work with cross-functional groups involving government and industry partners to design, model, fabricate, and test electrical circuits optimized for the acoustic, analog, and digital domains. The candidate will be expected to operate in coordination with research teams to provide development, prototyping, trouble shooting, testing, hardening, and documenting of electrical control and signal processing circuits.  The position is full time and located at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC.

Required Skills and Qualifications: 

  • BS Degree in electrical engineering, physics, mechanical engineering, or related discipline
  • Experience with acoustic system electronics development for low frequency signal processing
  • Experience with printed circuit board (PCB), ARM microcontroller, and field programable gate array (FPGA) design, programming, and testing
  • Expertise with board fabrication in the laboratory and managing third party fabricators
  • Demonstrated record of successful electronic circuit development with integration into a complex system
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance at the secret level

Desired Skills and Qualifications:    

  • MS degree in electrical engineering, physics, mechanical engineering, or related discipline
  • Familiarity or experience with Naval acoustic applications and requirements
  • Experience applying schematic capture, hardware descriptive language (HDL), and simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE)
  • Experience with functional and environmental subsystem testing
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

Travel: Occasional Travel Required but most travel will be within the Washington, DC area.
