Key Dates
Abstract Submission Deadline: 22 February
Recording Submission Deadline: 22 April
The 180th meeting of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), titled Acoustics in Focus (AIF), will be held online Tuesday through Thursday, 8-10 June 2021. AIF will be a new and exciting forum for acoustics researchers, practitioners, educators, and students to learn from each other.
Recognizing that online meetings cannot demand the complete attention of attendees for five full days, the meeting will be shorter than usual with a more focused set of topics. There will be a variety of technical session formats designed to encourage active participation by attendees in an online format. This new structure is informed by the post-meeting survey for the fall 2020 Acoustics Virtually Everywhere (AVE) meeting. It is anticipated that a regular in-person meeting will be held November 29 through December 3, 2021, in Seattle.
Formats for Acoustics in Focus technical sessions include the following:
Focused Presentation sessions that consist of pre-recorded invited and/or contributed talks within a specific topic or focus, with live discussion and interaction. Presentations require abstract submission to a relevant session.
Tutorial sessions that consist of an invited speaker giving a (live) feature-length presentation, answering questions, and leading discussion on topics chosen by Technical Committees.
Panel Discussion sessions that feature up to seven invited discussion leaders who may give live short presentations, answer questions, and lead discussions on topics chosen by Technical Committees.
Lightning Round sessions that consist of a rapid sequence of brief (5-minute) live presentations. Session chairs will organize presenters around a theme and moderate a lively discussion following the talks. (An author of a lightning-round presentation may also be the presenting author of one paper in a Focused Presentation session).
The condensed meeting format necessitates a limit of one abstract per presenting author. All presentations associated with an abstract must be pre-recorded and submitted in advance. Unfortunately, posters will not be accommodated at this meeting. Although the number of abstracts accepted for this meeting will be limited, the intent is for Acoustics in Focus to be a highly rewarding experience for attendees who do not submit an abstract.
Administrative meetings, Open Meetings of the Technical Committees, and the Plenary Session will be held outside of the three-day window of technical sessions.
Additional information about Acoustics in Focus including and registration information will be posted as details become available.
