Guidelines for Web Posting of papers published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA), JASA Express Letters (JASA-EL), or Proceedings of Meetings on Acoustics (POMA)

The Acoustical Society of America (ASA) grants to the author(s) of papers submitted to or published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA)JASA Express Letters (JASA-EL), or Proceedings of Meetings on Acoustics (POMA) the right to post and update the article on the Internet with the following specifications.

On the authors' and employers' webpages:

  • There are no format restrictions; files prepared and/or formatted by ASA, AIP, or its vendors (e.g., the PDF, PostScript, or HTML article files published in the online journals and proceedings) may be used for this purpose. For ASA copyrighted papers, authors have the right six or more months after publication to post copies of the article on institutional internet web sites or on governmental web sites, and have the right after publication to include the article on author‘s personal webpages. For ASA copyrighted papers, if a fee is charged for any use of the posted article, ASA permission must be obtained.
  • An appropriate copyright notice must be included along with the full citation for the published paper and a Web link to ASA's official online version of the abstract.

On free-access E-print servers:

On the National Institutes of Health (NIH) PubMed Central and other funding agency repositories:

  • Authors should indicate NIH funding by adding funding information (funder name, award/grant number and the grant recipient) in the appropriate Funding Information section at the time of submission in Editorial Manager. Upon acceptance of the article, it will automatically be deposited in final published form and associated metadata to PubMed Central (PMC). However, the full text of the article will not become available on PMC until one year after publication.
  • For such articles for which the author has paid ASA's fees for open access publication of their JASA Express Letters article, ASA will notify the repository that they may post the Article upon publication by AIP on behalf of ASA and its transmission by AIP to the repository.
  • Authors need not sign any additional Transfer of Copyright Agreement, other than the click-through copyright agreed to in the initial submission of the article to JASA in order to be fully compliant with institutional repository requirements such as those imposed by universities. Our agreement respects the spirit of the initiative toward self-archiving of material and supports the basic premise that authors have freedom to reuse their own work for scholarly, noncommercial purposes.

Linking to Articles

Please use the DOI link when linking to your article* in JASA, JASA Express Letters, or POMA.  The DOI is the Digital Object Identifier number for your article. For example: https://doi.org/10.1121/1.3065475. Note that the DOI link can be found under the title of each article online or on the title page of the article PDF.

The general format for ASA’s DOI link is:

https://doi.org/10.1121/DOIsuffixnumber

10.1121 is the ASA’s organizational number (DOI prefix) and is always the same
DOIsuffixnumber is the part of the DOI number (DOI suffix) that identifies a specific article

Example of an article link: To link to Whitlow W. L. Au and Kelly J. Benoit-Bird, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 123, 2884 (2008)

The DOI is: https://doi.org/10.1121/1.2902187

The HTML link is:
<a href=”https://doi.org/10.1121/1.2902187 “>Whitlow W. L. Au and Kelly J. Benoit-Bird, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 123, 2884 (2008)</a>

The Link would appear as:
Whitlow W. L. Au and Kelly J. Benoit-Bird, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 123 2884 (2008)

*Article links go to the online abstract, which contains links to all available full-text formats.
