Hallowell Davis

The recipient of the Gold Medal is always a man whose career fills the members of the Acoustical Society with pride and, more often than not, a man whose dimensions of distinction are manifold. To guess what criterion was used by this Society in selecting Hallowell Davis to receive the Gold Medal is difficult indeed, because there could be so many. He has unraveled many of the mysteries concerning the transmission of information into and through the nervous system.

Robert Bruce Lindsay

Our Society honors itself when it awards the Gold Medal to Robert Bruce Lindsay, research physicist, teacher, author, editor, and counselor. It is a pleasure for me to tell you about the accomplishments of this man who has been my friend for many years. But, because these accomplishments have been so many, it is difficult to know just where to begin. Let us start perhaps by looking at what it is that enables him to be so effective in his work.

Georg von Békésy

It is interesting about medals. Sometimes the medal lends stature to the man; sometimes the man lends stature to the medal. No doubt the happiest conjunction of a man and a medal takes place when everybody takes such satisfaction in the award that he says to his neighbor, "That was the perfect choice of a medalist."
