Acoustical Society of America’s New Education and Outreach Coordinator

Keeta will work closely with the ASA’s Committee on Education in Acoustics to implement ASA’s acoustics education and outreach initiatives.  She will also act as liaison to promote and assist with the coordination of education and outreach efforts initiated by the Education in Acoustics Committee, Women in Acoustics Committee, Student Council, and the technical committees.

Keeta received a B.A. in German and Linguistics from The University of Toledo where she graduated magna cum laude and is working toward an M.A. in Linguistics from The Ohio State University.

She served in several positions while pursuing her M.A. degree. Keeta was a Volunteer Science Demonstrator at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) Language Sciences Lab where she conducted interactive science demonstrations at the Center and at external events. At COSI she also worked as a Program Assistant in the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates program. Keeta served as a College Instructor at Ohio State University (OSU) Department of Linguistics and most recently was Resident Advisor for the Summer Linguistics Institute for Youth Scholars at OSU.

ASA’s outreach activities include outreach sessions at ASA meetings designed for local Girl Scout troops (Listen Up and Get Involved) and local middle and/or high school students (Hands-On Acoustics Demonstrations), the Education and Outreach website www.exploresound.org, distribution of Teacher Activity Kits, acoustics graduate program database, participation as a Special Award Organization at International Science and Engineering Fairs, and other activities at ASA meetings including the Resume Help Desk and Undergraduate Poster sessions.
